Meet Shannon: Ready to Tackle Her Firsts

Shannon is new to Wilbur-Ellis and new to the workforce. She recently graduated from college and is tackling a variety of “firsts” in her life. Shannon needs some guidance when it comes to choosing the right benefits for her needs and budget. She can also check if she is eligible to remain covered under one of her parent’s medical plans offered through their employer. Shannon is looking for ways to save for a rainy day and still have some money set aside for fun.

Shannon loves to work hard and play hard. On any given weekend, she could be playing in a soccer game, hiking, or training for a marathon. Shannon had a minor running injury late last year and while that has not slowed her down, she still needs physical therapy for lingering knee issues. Otherwise, she is healthy, manages to hit the gym to stay in shape, and only uses her primary care provider for her annual physical.

SHANNON’S CHOICE OF COVERAGE

After speaking to the Blue Shield of California Concierge about what’s covered, here are the plans Shannon chooses to help her get the most out of her Wilbur-Ellis benefits and still save for the future. There are a variety of programs for Shannon to take advantage of to help bring her healthcare costs down, including Shield Concierge Services, which helps her connect directly with a BSCA concierge on her phone to find a provider, compare medical costs, explore lower cost prescriptions, and more:

  • Blue Shield of California HSA Black plan: This plan offers Shannon comprehensive coverage while keeping her paycheck premiums low so she can save money. She has access to Blue Shield of California’s broad network of doctors, which includes her primary provider and her physical therapist.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA): The HSA lets Shannon set aside money for future medical, dental, and vision needs and pay up front for things like deductibles and prescriptions. With Shannon’s minimal healthcare needs, she is able to save that money and let it roll over each year so she can save for a rainy day. In addition, Wilbur-Ellis contributes $400 to her HSA every quarter. Wilbur-Ellis and Shannon’s HSA contributions give her choice and flexibility on when she uses her funds, whether it is for her physical therapy during the current plan year or for other healthcare needs or in the future. That makes it even easier for her to save.
  • 401(k) Retirement Savings Account: The 401(k) Savings Plan offers Shannon an easy way to save for retirement. She can set aside 3 to 75 percent of her eligible pay on a pre-tax (Traditional) and/or after-tax (Roth) basis and not have to think about it as her savings grow. She also receives a match from Wilbur-Ellis when she contributes to the plan.
  • Wellvolution: Shannon participates in the digital Wellvolution wellness program, which supports her efforts to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Meet Vijay: Adding to His Growing Family

Vijay is new to Wilbur-Ellis and he and his spouse recently welcomed their second child. He’s learning how to manage his growing family with two small children. He’s looking for coverage that offers the care he needs, without putting a big dent in his bank account. He’s also looking for convenient ways to access care when he and his family need it.

With a new baby, Vijay and his spouse spend a fair amount of time at the doctor for check-ups and preventive care. And, with a young toddler, there’s a good chance he will need a quick trip to the urgent care, in addition to regular check-ups and immunizations.

VIJAY’S CHOICE OF COVERAGE:

Here are the plans Vijay chooses to help him meet his needs and get the most out of his benefits. Vijay can also use Shield Concierge Services through Blue Shield of California to help him reduce costs and save time for minor health concerns:

  • Blue Shield of California HSA Yellow plan: This plan offers Vijay a high level of coverage at a low premium cost so he can save money. This plan offers him comprehensive coverage through Blue Shield of California’s broad network of providers.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA): The HSA lets Vijay set aside money for future medical, dental, and vision expenses and pay for up-front expenses like deductibles and prescriptions. It also gives him a little financial peace of mind if he or his family needs to pay for medical care. As an added benefit, Wilbur-Ellis contributes to the HSA on Vijay’s behalf.
  • Supplemental Life Insurance: Wilbur-Ellis provides company-paid life insurance that provides a benefit to Vijay’s beneficiaries equal to one times his annual base salary up to a maximum of $500,000. Vijay wants to ensure that his family has financial protection, so he also enrolls in additional life insurance to supplement the basic coverage. He can choose to purchase supplemental coverage that provides a benefit equal to an additional one, two, or three times his annual base salary up to a maximum of $1,000,000, inclusive of his Basic AD&D coverage amount. Next year, any increases to Vijay’s supplemental life insurance coverage may be subject to evidence of insurability.
  • 401(k) Savings Plan: The 401(k) Savings Plan offers Vijay a convenient way to save for retirement. He can contribute from 3 to 75 percent of his eligible pay on a pre-tax (Traditional) and/or after-tax (Roth) basis and invest in his choice of available funds. Meet Carlos: Preparing for a Busy Year

Carlos and his spouse are always learning new ways to balance work and family. They have two teenage children still in high school and the oldest is getting ready to go to college next year. Carlos knows that life in 2026 will be a hectic, new journey.

Carlos and his family are relatively healthy, but his spouse is a cancer survivor and visits the doctor several times a year for check-ups and tests. Carlos is looking for a plan that offers comprehensive coverage that offers peace of mind for his spouse and covers his daughter who will be away at college.

CARLOS’S CHOICE OF COVERAGE

Here are the plans Carlos chooses to help his family meet their unique needs:

  • Blue Shield of California PPO plan: This plan offers Carlos the highest level of flexibility with comprehensive coverage. His spouse will be able to see her doctor and specialists, because they are a part of Blue Shield of California’s broad network of providers and his daughter will be covered while she’s away at school.
  • Teladoc: Carlos’s daughter who is about to start college is quite tech savvy. When health issues arise, she can take advantage of seeing a medical professional virtually through Teladoc. Carlos and the rest of his family can also use Teladoc.
  • Voluntary Critical Illness Insurance: This plan gives Carlos extra protection and financial support in the event he or his family experiences a major illness like a heart attack or cancer and needs to pay for an extended hospital stay and additional care.
  • Supplemental Life Insurance: Wilbur-Ellis provides company-paid life insurance that provides a benefit to Carlos’s beneficiaries equal to one times his annual base salary up to a maximum of $500,000. Carlos wants to ensure that his family has financial protection, so he also enrolls in additional life insurance to supplement the basic coverage. He can choose to purchase supplemental coverage that provides a benefit equal to an additional one, two, or three times his annual base salary up to a maximum of $1,000,000, inclusive of his Basic AD&D coverage amount. He can contribute from 3 to 75 percent of his eligible pay on a pre-tax (Traditional) and/or after-tax (Roth) basis and invest in his choice of available funds. He also receives an employer match when he contributes to the plan. Because Carlos is over age 50, he may also make catch-up contributions (on a pre-tax and/or Roth basis) up to 10 percent of his eligible pay.
  • Wellvolution: Carlos participates in the digital Wellvolution wellness program, which supports his efforts to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
